METHOD STATEMENT
Objective:
To provide temporary scaffolding works for the site requirements.
GENERAL
This Method Statement is set out for the erection and dismantling of access scaffolding and temporary edge protection.
MATERIALS
Materials to be of traditional tube and fitting. Decking to be timber board 225mm Wide by 38mm thick Specialist material will be included in an amendment. Materials will be to standards BS 1193.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Safety helmets and steel toe capped boots will be mandatory. Safety harnesses will be worn in accordance with NASC guidance note SG4:00. Additional equipment will be worn as required. (when noted in risk assessment) eg hi viz vests. Goggles, ear defenders etc.
NB All operative will attend main contractors site safety induction( if applicable) prior to commencement of works.
POWER CABLES
Electric cables present—Treat all cables as LIVE, do not start work if in doubt.
If cables are sheathed, and materials need to carried to work face, all materials to be carried horizontally. Do not stand any equipment up until you have reached the work face.
If site staff inform you that unsheathe cables are safe, check with your line manager or head office before commencement of any works, including unloading of vehicles.
RISK ASSESSMENT
A separate risk assessment of the site and the task will be carried out prior to commencement of works. A review date will be indicated if required.
PERSON IN CHARGE OF WORKS
Honiton Scaffolding will appoint a charge hand, who will be in charge of our works and act as a liaison between the client and Honiton Scaffolding. The client is to have a person in charge of our works for the duration of the programmer. (eg site foreman or agent)
OPERATIVES
All operatives working on the site will be deemed competent to carry out works of this nature and will have been briefed on the use of all arrest equipment for works on scaffolding projects.
PLANT
Occasionally the use of plant may be requested for moving our equipment. This will only be allowed if Clients permission is given, and only trained personnel operate machinery.
DELIVERY AND COLLECTION OF MATERIALS
Materials will be delivered via rigid flat bed vehicles and stored in a area agreed with the client. Good housekeeping to be maintained to avoid tripping hazards and to maintain a clear thoroughfare.
HANDOVER OF STRUCTURE
The structure will be handed over to the client only when completed and fit for the purpose, using handover certificate.
NB The client is responsible for the inspection of scaffold on a weekly basis or after major adaptations or adverse weather conditions.
METHOD OF WORK
All scaffold works carried out in accordance with (unless otherwise stated) BS 5973 (1993), an approved code of practice for the scaffolding industry and the construction (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996.
NB. Unless otherwise stated all scaffolds will have a maximum loading of 2.0kn per Square meter, not to be exceeded
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Client to supply the Following:
- Site Welfare for operatives
- Firm and level base for scaffolding
- Rescue plan to recover operatives in the event of an accident
- First aid facilities
- Any information that may affect the works
MOVING EQUIPMENT UP AND DOWN THE SCAFFOLDING
Special care will be taken when raising or lowering materials to prevent uncontrolled falling by using rope and wheel or passing materials hand over hand. At no point will equipment be lowered by dropping. Mechanical devices will be used wherever possible to reduce manual handling.
CHANGES
Any change in this Method Statement to be agreed in writing with Honiton Scaffolding and the Client.
